Zombies aren't actually reanimated dead corpses due to some disease or magic spell. Zombies are created through drugs and poisons and hypnosis. A person is poisoned in a way it drops his heart rate to only one beat to an hour or so, his relatives believe he is dead and they bury him.
Then the 'zombie master' comes and digs up the 'corpse', and feeds him poisons and drugs to awaken him and wipe his memories, through hypnosis the zombie is given commands and instructions.
It's a voodoo practice, often used to create cheap labour for the field. A zombie master like that can create like fifty zombies and have them work on his field, making large profits due to not having to pay any wages. The zombies aren't actually dead though, and if the zombie master dies and stops feeding them poison and drugs, they will eventually awaken. There are accounts of zombies who after decades, finally awakened.
